PLANNING TOOLS / SUPPLY LAB
Test an interruption.
See which day first falls short when a material route stops, and what a qualified standby route can cover.
YOUR SCENARIO
Illustrative planning. Only use already-qualified standby material in this scenario. The model does not establish a supplier commitment.
Read the method.
- Scope and unit
- Use kilograms of one qualified material at one handoff. Daily demand and unaffected supply are constant.
- Initial stock
- Daily demand × opening stock days. Inventory covers remaining unmet demand until exhausted.
- Standby lead time
- A lead time of zero starts on day one. A lead time of 10 starts on day 11. Coverage applies only to the disrupted share.
- Service and cumulative shortage
- Demand served equals unaffected supply, standby supply and usable stock drawn, capped at each day’s demand. Unserved demand is counted once per day. No backlog is carried.
Use the downloadable daily rows to discuss the stock buffer, approval date and standby quantity with your operations team. Model outputs depend on the assumptions supplied.
